Where a home charger matters most
With fewer public chargepoints in rural west Northumberland than in the towns, being able to charge at home makes a big practical difference. We plan installs for farmhouses, cottages and barn conversions where the parking may be some way from the house.
Rural installation considerations
- Long cable runs: cable has to be sized for the distance so the voltage drop stays acceptable, and runs may need burying.
- Earthing: some rural properties already have a TT earth (an earth rod), and others may need one for outdoor EV charging. We assess this on survey.
- Supply capacity: older or overhead supplies may have a lower-rated main fuse. Smart load management or a supply upgrade from the DNO (Northern Powergrid locally) may be needed.
- Outbuildings: mounting on a barn or garage with a properly protected sub-main.
Farms, holiday lets and businesses
Staff and fleet parking at farms and rural businesses may qualify for the Workplace Charging Scheme, and small accommodation businesses are among those eligible. Holiday lets are not eligible for the residential landlord grant.
